A new series of X Factor began this weekend. Normally I wouldn’t do much more than display what I would refer to as ‘a passing interest’… On this occasion I am paying slightly more interest as Belle Harmonie are contestants.
If you haven’t heard of Belle Harmonie, then I would encourage you to listen to them sing – they are a four piece girl harmony group from Warwickshire. I have heard Ellie, Rachel, Molly and Lauren sing live, even unaccompanied, and they can sing. As in, make the hairs on the back of neck stand up kind of sing.
Back in 2013, they needed some promotional images so over the course of the year we arranged a few photo shoots of different styles to suit their group and also the songs which they were recording. The images were for promotional products which were an EP and a CD single, for social media, PR, website – the uses for the images were varied to say the least.
The layout of the EP and CD covers were very different from each other – one light, flowing, and fun (see the musical notes layouts) and the other was shot in a WW2 jeep on a muddy test trail in a more vintage, but still fun, style. I was really pleased with images used on both the covers – they showed the personality of each of the girls which was just what we were aiming for, along with the ‘look’ of the whole cover ideas.
I took photos of Belle Harmonie performing for video at the Leamington Assembly as well as at the recording studios in Leamington and I really enjoyed hearing them sing. They were, and still are, stunning to listen to live – and I am very excited for them for the future.
It takes a lot of planning and discussion before these kind of photo shoots can happen, and there are many people to work with on a photo project – co-ordination, planning, style and story boards, fashion, hair, makeup… it takes time, and a great deal of listening, to be able to interpret everything which various people would like and to bring that together in to what is often just one single image which is used for a promotional product or PR.
It’s great to see Ellie, Rachel, Molly and Lauren from time to time, to hear what they are doing currently, and to see them now on X Factor. Exciting times!
I hope you listen to their music and enjoy it, and follow them in their future as a harmony group. Good luck for a fantastic future Belle Harmonie.
