I don’t profess to be much of a geek when it comes to camera equipment but…well, in this instance I just had to share the link to photographer Jeff Cable’s blog post about being allowed behind the scenes with Canon at the Rio Olympic Games. Even I did a double take at his photos – just amazing.
This is Jeff Cable’s fifth Olympic Games and the first time he’s been permitted to see the Canon operations, where official photographers can borrow just as much Canon camera kit as they want to – a very rare treat that it sounds like he very much enjoyed.
As a bit of a runner and an occasional triathlete I try, when I can, to watch some of the Olympic and Paralympic Games – especially some of the athletics. And although I am usually watching the athletes, I will occasionally catch myself looking at the tv and photography crews – looking at what they are doing and how they are doing it. (Who doesn’t remember the cameraman on the Segway running into Usain Bolt in Beijing?!). I love looking at the photos which the photographers take – for me, the best ones are the images showing the emotions of the competitors and the amazing efforts and abilities which the athletes have. All very inspiring to someone who jogs a few miles, as long as it’s not raining too much…
Go have a read of Jeff Cable’s blog, leave a comment, sign up for his newsletter and updates – personally I am really looking forward to seeing more of his blog posts of his time at Rio and wish him safe travels as well as many fantastic photo opportunities.
